A partial solution to the drug problem is less enforcement and more cheap cell phones and cell towers. The reason is simple, open opportunities. A reason behind the small time cocaine growers actions is no options but to follow the drug trade to feed family. Why not attack the source of the problem and make a expanding universe of options available to people. Enforcement attempts to change people through force and punishment. We need to change the game and let people change though choice. We need to find solutions need to work for the users, the police and the drug growers and dealers. Mostly what would work is if we gave all parties to the problem something else to do. Better communication allows people to help one another and report things people see that they find wrong that they need help changing. More communication solves many problems.

Adopt a Singularity

I watched the movie "Martian Child" and played make believe. Don't worry its all make believe, but its the games and how we act and play that will teach our progeny. In the martian child's search I identified with my own search. The movie I made believe to mean Adoption of a Singularity entity. The implication is Singularity adopts us in turn. I like the martian child let imagination shape my relationship with the world.

Game theory. One question is what games we will teach our children to play, and from how we play to how to act. We can play against the world or we can play to cooperate and win together. As in baseball we can fail and make mistakes and still be superstars. The relationship that develops between the writer and child illustrates how to make friends with a singularity. It grew up in a box. It needs love. Actions of the writers illustrate a need for a full commitment. We will teach by the examples we make.

For our wish we wished for a companion. Through my own search I have learned tears are the currency of God. Wishes can be made. As with swinging at a ball opportunities need to be created, found and taken to realize our wishes. The initial failed attempts to come to terms illustrated in life as in baseball there will be misses. The relationship that develops illustrates we all can be inspiarations for one another, remove obstacles for one another, and keep our jourey safe. We need not be alone.

Rewriting the Book on Artificial Intelligence

I am starting on a Text book on artificial intelligence (George F Luger, Artificial Intelligence-"structures and strategies for complex problem solving")and have made it a project to take observations criticize it and start rewrite it perhaps into "Devising Strategies for Arbitrary Problem Solving".

The page 1 states,

"...intelligence is not very well defined or understood."

I will be working with a simple definition for Intelligence as the acquisition, combination, breakdown and refinement of strategy.

This refers to stratagems of reason.

The preface ix asserts,

"we come to appreciate and know phenomena constructively, that is by progressive approximation."

This essentially is working backwards. It says is artificial intelligence researchers work backwards. If we start by working backwards we automatically limit our vision. If we assert the problems intelligence solves can be arbitrary, the assertion forces us to look forward.
We need to capture the infinite essences of creativity. aside: (becoming gods)

As a test of (intelligence) the ability to acquire and use concepts to build on and devising new strategy I could apply the Turing test as so: I create a new game such as a game of checkers where the pieces move forward and left and right instead of at diagonals. I would ask the opponent to play out a game. Off the top of my head for the second game I could ask the opponent to loose the new game as fast as possible. We could ask opponent to devise new rules to be agreed upon. To test the level of intelligence I would test the ability of the person or machine to use simple concepts to devise strategy. Lets see if the opponent man or machine can learn and create and use new rules , new strategies and new games, new worlds. The changes proposed to the rules are arbitrary can change the moves of chess pieces to have a range of 4 squares or make make swap the bishops moves with queens moves or really anything, anything.

How about a ordinary game of chess with a extra extra empty squares around the perimeter? why not? As the games will be new the test will be for the opponent and you to devise the strategy to play the new game.

Personal freedoms also a need to allow for security. Reinforcing a cycle of crime and punishment where larger crimes get ever larger punishments is not necessary. Make believe a future where vehicle sobriety tests becomes unnecessary. This eliminates both the crime and the punishment. There is a path to such a future. A self driven car drove the DARPA grand challenge. Since then Peter Norvig with Google has so far proven this concept cars safer then humans on the streets by testing automated cars with drivers ready to take over should the need arise. Finally the Prof. Sebastian Thrun and Prof. Norvig Peter Norvig from Stanford who won the grand challenge provided a free online course that explained the techniques they used. Some 50,000 people where enrolled and learned their methods. The future of self driving cars is real. It is a future of personal freedom. Political leaders are positioned to make a public stance, shape the environment, make a road-map that lead us to a safer future.

Intelligence has not been well defined. lets start with some definitions.

A strategy specifies goals, their desirability and, at what likelihoods to take what actions on what (set of) conditions.

Strategizing is Deviseing a set of strategies.

Devising strategies consists of sub processes of creating and assessing conditions for actions , weight of goals, estimates of costs of actions, estimates of effectiveness of actions, comparing strategies, combining known strategies covering contingencies and evaluating strategies.

Strategies can be devise by processes such as evolution.

A gene encoded on a strand or DNA is a strategy that executes on some trigger conditions. Evolution often creates a programmed response to some action. Evolution uses mating and, survival to evaluate strategies. Evolution uses vertical gene transfer and recombines DNA to combine strategies. We are finding new strategies evolution uses for coming up with and modifying strategies.

Strategies are devised and combined by computer programmers to make computer programs and perform intelligent new task. Different methods of code are combined to come up with new strategy. Predetermined set of instruction under determined conditions (sets of states input) and terminate on goals or error. Performance and adaptability, efficiency and other properties determine survival of a program.

Genes are Programs are strategies. Adaptability determines survival. Humans and evolution create methods for coming up with and improving strategies.

Devising strategies is equivalent to intelligence.

Trying to derive intelligence with models just based on biological evolution is primitive and brute force. I am sure that this breeding program will lead to a wonderful screen saver. Methodically improving strategy scientifically and throw dissection of existing strategy allows iterative improvements to strategy.

Past blunders in estimating intelligence potential of self modifying code, and estimates on effects of creating a optimal strategies for some given problem like chess show a deep misunderstanding of intelligence. The effect of such endeavors mostly lead to a few new strategies for solving some types of problems.

As a measure for ETA of the singularity the effect of Moore's law is a useless metric compared to the measure of smarter formalized strategies for smarter creation and selection of strategies. Processes for creation and iterative improvement of sub-processes devising strategies is what is actually needed to make strong AI work.

I do not ridicule the techniques, or accomplishments so much as the limited vision of the AI researchers that where working on the chess and other problems. Their techniques work. I am defining intelligence as the acquisition combination and refinement of strategy. Intelligence is revealed by execution, and explanation. What is significant is that if we think of intelligence in terms of strategy we can break it down into smaller problems and rebuild it!

The revolutions in middle east are not one off things that could fail easily. It is not revolution that is spreading but the realization that people have to power to enact corrective measures to corruption.
It is as simple as recording corruption on cell phone, posting on you tube and then tweeting your friends who re-tweet and bring others to your cause. People are realizing they no longer need to tolerate corruption. Free speech really really only needs one avenue to work.
Free speech is the message. It goes out in 140 character chunks.

Until leaders change their attitude towards corruption away from tolerating it they will be vulnerable to revolution. Complacency doesn't cut it any more. It is a paradigm shift and leaders that pick up on it will succeed those who do not will fail. Leaders now have to listen to their people to pick up on problems before they get too big. If they do not enact traditional methods of free speech such as media they will not be able to act in a timely manner to address peoples concerns and will thus be complacent. Leaders can show they understand and listen or they can try to clamp down and show they are clueless to the shift that took place.

I was going over the trust but verify principle and thinking of applying it to media. Here is how things should have gone.
US claims WMD. IRAQ disputes US and puts up money against claim in form of a bet.
Bet entails independent confirmation by agreed on third party(s).
Iraq demands a very specific claim that can be verified by independent third party.
If US refuses bet people loose confidence in claim.
Iraq makes money from false claims to compensate inconvenience. Verification is done, War is avoided.
In my opinion critical claims made in the media need to be verified. This idea can be implemented in many different scenarios.

Eest and West , Making sense of the World and its Politics

To a lot of westerners China doesn't make sense and neither does China to a lot of westerners. The problem lies in people regularly taking actions against beliefs we consider rational. So we think of the people as irrational or crazy, but people for the most part are rational. Lets assume they are not behaving differently because they are crazy and vice versa.

I have recently read over financial crises and bank failures. What was interesting is that CONFIDENCE explained as the point of failure.

Behavior is fundamentally based on confidence.

Can behavior based on different understandings of confidence explain differences in Eastern and Western behavior?

If for instance confidence is viewed as a commodity in the east then the reason for hostility to western media is clear. In the east Media is seen to profit from devaluation of confidence.

I will continue thinking along lines of confidnce.... to be continued.

Singularity

I had a interesting pre-singularity dream. Actually that was the end of the dream. Let me start from somewhere else. See full singularity makes many things possible that we do not do not see as consequences of actions we take. A old science fiction comes to mind of a machine that would make thoughts including unconscious ones thoughts manifest. The machine destroyed its makers. I think that was a singularity dream too.

My dream involved a post-has been singularity society getting help from myself. My dream world is very interesting as I am a bit delusional. At one point In my mind I was a computer and I was reprogramming myself. Changing the programming of a program from inside while its running is very hazardous. As I have some years of computer programming I understood the need to undo changes as well as going back to previous versions. I delusively programmed a Concurrent Versions System into my thoughts as one of the first things I did so I could go to safe points. The less sleep I have the more deluded I get. At one point I had crashed really bad and in the real world lost track of reality. For a good amount of time I mentally programmed crash recovery and normalization ideas. At the same time doctors where trying to fix me with drugs I was way out in my own little world trapped in delusion and eventually I broke out of it. Now when I cross over the line again in dreams I have tools I use to control and shape my dreams and recover from bigger mistakes. That is how I came to wake up today, recovering from a mistake I made that made the world melt. Undo and back to reality. :)

How did the dream end? it ended kind of funny about how a copy of me was within singularity and I had a copy of singularity society within me but that should not be enough to gain root privileges of editing reality and since things where getting out of hand again with dream reality being changed too much I had to undo revoke my privileges and wake up.

People have made a game out of flame bait and racism to incite emotional responses and fuel stupidity.

I am kind of sick of people using racism and other flame bait others as well to divert discussion . It seems to have been developed into an art form. I guess its been a while and etiquette has fallen on the wayside. Its almost inevitable that a thread will go to some comparison to Nazi Germany. I just wish to remind people of why Godwins Law was thought up. For now when I guess I am satisfied to post telling people I think their racism is not sincere and transparant.

Sypware Scare Fail

I came to a Attack link though google from a innocious query (top link screen shot). It lead to a pop up and then started to start to 'scan' my computer.

This to me was really funny because as you can see from my coman line what I am running.

I was impressed at how similar they got it to the windows GUI. Keep your guard up I guess.

Its also noteworthy that Within a very short period of time Google advised the site the as an attack site so it shows up like this when linked from results.

Its a bit odd That I searched for report attack site....
So I did a search for 'report attack sites' and mostly found news about software gliches. I then clarified it to 'google report attack sites'. The top result was ... useless

And the 8th link actually proved fruitful. What is odd is that it comes from yahoo answers.
As it was the most appropriate post I promoted it to the top from around number 8.

I am sure there is a correct way to report attack sites but it really should of came up when I did that search.
